The week before half term, Year 6 and a plucky team of staff set off to Dorset. When the coach turned the steep corner into PGL Osmington Bay, there was a huge cheer from the children as the panoramic view of the Dorset Coast from the site is spectacular. There then followed an exciting week where the children took part in some wonderful activities: playing in the water at Portland with some stand up paddle boards, a delightful hike which included some delicious farm ice cream, the trapeze (involved climbing up a tall pole, and jumping off a platform, to descend under the control of ropes), a fabulous zipwire that was framed by the ocean, indoor wall climbing, street surfing (like a skateboard but with only two wheels), the infamous giant swing, aeroball, archery, fencing, problem solving (outdoor puzzles involving teamwork) and Jacob’s ladder. The evening activities were a lot of fun too – an outdoor game of Cluedo in the dark, a raucous campfire with lots of silly songs and some great team competitions. The PGL staff looked after us very well, with lots of energy, skill and plenty of satisfying food. PGL 2023 was made very special by a fantastic group of children, who had a go at everything (sometimes in some challenging weather conditions and were) with positivity and enthusiasm. They certainly upheld our school values throughout the week! Thank you so much to Year 6 for being such a pleasure to be with, and to all the St Peter’s adults who gave up their spare time support the trip.
