RE Quality Mark 2016
RE Quality Mark (REQM)
Why?
It’s the chance to celebrate great RE. We know that when it is well done, learners engage with the big ideas about being human. They get the chance to explore their own and others’ beliefs, their values and ways of living which are important to them.
At St Peter’s we view RE as the subject which leads the deeper thinking. It is a subject which is very relevant to today’s world, for people of all faiths and none. In RE, children have opportunities to question and challenge. They also learn that adults do not have all the answers. Higher order thinking skills are developed in RE lessons.
In 2016, St Peter’s obtained the RE Quality Mark. This national award which recognises high quality learning and teaching in Religious Education. The REQM looks at high level pedagogy and places a strong emphasis on higher level thinking and questioning.
The assessor was particularly impressed by the many opportunities for drama, art and music in RE lessons. The children’s responses were supported by the learning in the books and the evidence of RE learning through other media.
At St Peter’s we were delighted to be the first primary school in the Diocese to achieve this award. We are now hoping to support other schools in this subject area.
